PARTICIPANT INFORMATION SHEET
Central University Research Ethics Committee Approval Reference: R90986/RE001
You are being invited to take part in a research project. Before you decide it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Ask us if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether you wish to take part.
We are interested in how people make decisions in everyday life. By analysing decisions collected in simple tasks and games, we aim to improve our understanding of the mental operations that result in successful decision making.
You have been invited to participate as you are aged 18 years of age and over and speak fluent English. You also need to be using a desktop or a laptop.
No. It is up to you to decide whether to take part. You can withdraw from the research, without giving a reason, and without negative consequences, by closing the browser window at any time. Your data will be used only if you complete the study.
If you are willing to take part, you will consent to this by completing the consent form below. Then, you will complete an online study, involving a series of games and decisions and judgments about what you see or read. The session will take 40 minutes or less, with regular breaks.
There are no known disadvantages or risks associated with this study.
There will be no direct or personal benefit to you from taking part in this research.
You will receive compensation for your participation, as advertised on Prolific.
We will not collect your name or IP address.
We will collect data on your decisions, subjective confidence, and decision times. This data will be analysed by us using statistical and computational tools as part of our research, looking at the psychological processes underlying decision-making in humans.
Research data will be stored in servers owned by the University of Oxford. Non-identifiable research data will be openly shared with the scientific community in an online database.
The findings from the research may be written up in academic publications and conference presentations. In case data will be used as part of a master’s thesis, a copy of the thesis will be deposited both in print and online in the Oxford University Research Archive where it will be publicly available to facilitate its use in future research.
You will not be identifiable from these outputs.
